Whatโ€™s next

An honest list of what exists, and what is coming. Tell us what matters most and we will build that first.

Already live: 32 tools

Join & cut (5) ยท Arrange & repair (8) ยท Stamp & annotate (5) ยท Make & extract (5) ยท Shrink & restyle (2) ยท Privacy & cleanup (4) ยท Compare & ask (3)

Next: heavier in-browser engines

Still on your device, but they need bigger libraries such as WebAssembly encryption and OCR.
๐Ÿ”’

Add a password

phase 2
Encrypt a PDF so it needs a password.
Needs a PDF engine that can write encrypted files. Planned as a WebAssembly add-on.
๐Ÿ”“

Remove a password

phase 2
Unlock a PDF you have the password for.
Needs a decryption engine (WebAssembly). Planned alongside Add a password.
๐Ÿ‘๏ธ

Read scans (OCR)

phase 2
Make scanned pages searchable and copyable.
Needs an in-browser OCR engine and language packs, which are large downloads.
๐Ÿ–Š๏ธ

Sign a PDF

phase 2
Draw or type a signature and place it.
Needs a drawing pad and drag-to-place editor. For now, use โ€œLogo or image stampโ€ with a picture of your signature.
๐Ÿ“‹

Fill in a form

phase 2
Type into fillable form fields.
Needs a field editor. For now, use โ€œWrite on a PDFโ€ to place text.

Later: conversions that need a server

Accurate Office conversions do not run well in a browser. If we build these, we will say clearly whenever a file is sent off your device.
๐Ÿ“„

Word to PDF

phase 3
Convert .docx documents to PDF.
Accurate conversion needs a document engine that does not run well in a browser. It would run on a server, and we would tell you clearly when a file leaves your device.
๐Ÿ“

PDF to Word

phase 3
Get an editable .docx from a PDF.
Needs server-side layout analysis. Planned with a clear notice that files are sent to be converted.
๐Ÿ“Š

Excel to PDF

phase 3
Spreadsheets to tidy PDFs.
Needs a spreadsheet layout engine, so it would run on a server.
๐Ÿ“ˆ

PDF to Excel

phase 3
Pull tables out into a spreadsheet.
Table detection is hard to do reliably in the browser. Planned on a server.
๐Ÿ“ฝ๏ธ

PowerPoint to PDF

phase 3
Slides to PDF.
Needs a presentation renderer, so it would run on a server.
๐ŸŒ

Web page to PDF

phase 3
Turn HTML or a web page into a PDF.
Needs a full browser engine to lay out pages, so it would run on a server.

Later: mobile apps

The site is built with React Native (via Expo), so the same code can become Android and iPhone apps. That is planned for after the website matures. A few tools (anything that draws pages) will need extra mobile work first.
